Rise Together with President Philip Johnson

February 7, 2020

On this episode of Finlandia Fridays, FinnU President, Philip Johnson drops by the set to discuss the new Rise Together Scholarship with host, Olivia Myers. President Johnson discusses the excitement that Rise Together brings and how it will help students who never thought college was an option.

The Rise Together Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that, when combined with federal and Michigan state scholarships and grants, covers a Michigan student’s entire tuition costs. This scholarship keeps with Finlandia’s mission of providing affordable higher education to all.

This scholarship can be applied to a students first two years of study at FinnU. After the completion of 56 credit hours and/or an associate’s degree, students can easily transfer into a bachelor’s degree program and be eligible for the $10,000 Finnish Strong Scholarship.

“The Rise Together Scholarship is Finlandia’s boldest expressions of affordability. Especially for those who thought college was out of reach,” said Johnson. “To bring to campus those students that demonstrate real need and we are able to meet that need in a really special way.

“Essentially offering free tuition for the first two years and then matriculating into a four-year program, should they desire, that is equally affordable.”

Students must meet all criteria to be eligible for the Rise Together Scholarship. Students are encouraged to file their FAFSA by March 1, 2020, to receive the full tuition benefits. This scholarship is renewable, but students are not eligible to receive additional institutional scholarships.
