Alums make a case for a pre-law path

Being at a close-knit, liberal arts school students get the opportunity to explore different options for their futures. These alumni saw their path to law school through Finlandia, while one Upper Peninsula lawyer has already proven that track as she followed her childhood passion.

Brierra Ruska, a 2015 Finlandia graduate, and current University of North Dakota Law School student was asked a question that changed her life two weeks before graduation.

Alum Jaimianne Amicucci receives promotion

Jaimianne Amicucci (‘10) has been promoted to Director for the James Renwick Alliance.

Like most people who visit the copper country, Amicucci fell in love with the sea of trees and long winters during her time at Finlandia University.

“I was looking for three things when I was applying to colleges: great student to teacher ratio, a strong art department and traveling,” says Amicucci, who earned her BFA in ceramics. “Finlandia had the perfect balance of all three.”

Finlandia University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is helping to fill the growing demand for nurse practitioners in the workforce.

“Finlandia’s nursing program, which is an accredited bachelor’s degree nursing program, has a rigorous curriculum and large number of clinical hours that prepare our graduates for advanced degrees in nursing,” said Finlandia’s Nursing Department Chair Johnna Therrian. “For many of our students, obtaining their nurse practitioner (NP) license is their goal when they’re done.”

She graduated as an RN instead.

Alumni Update: Alissa Pietila (’14) heads new broadcast segment at TV6

Pietila, a 2014 Finlandia University alumna, graduated with a bachelor’s in communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in psychology. During college, she always thought she would work in a magazine and write long-form articles. Instead, she took a job at the Daily Globe in Ironwood before moving to
