Upper Great Lakes hires 2007 nursing alum Jenny Bausano, NP

Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center (UGL) recently announced Jenny (Niileksela) Bausano (’07), Nurse Practitioner (NP), has been hired to join their team of family medicine providers at the Lake Linden Family Health Center.

Bausano was born in Hancock, and grew up in Chandler, Arizona. She relocated to the Copper Country during high school and graduated from Hancock Central High. Bausano earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Finlandia University. [...]

Finlandia Alumni Board hosting Giving Day to raise money for textbooks

The Finlandia Alumni Board will host a Giving Day to celebrate everything Finlandia University on June 19-20. The day, which will begin on June 19 at 8 am and run until noon on June 20, will feature social media challenges, downloadable games, information on alumni volunteer opportunities, and a fundraiser to raise money for Textbook Awards for students this fall.

Finlandia University Awarded Grant to Launch Center for Vocation and Career Development

Finlandia University students are set to see an upgrade to their job-seeking skills as the university has received the $25,000 NetVUE Vocation across the Academy Grant from the Council of Independent Colleges to launch a Center for Vocation and Career Development.

Leading the Pride continues in the month of June by talking with Digital Arts and Animation major, Ashlee Kranz (’16). Kranz is a freelance digital and graphic artist at her own company, Dream Chaser Studios in Goodman, WI. She has recently been involved with the movie series, Northbound, which is filmed in the UP.

Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen Named 2019 Recipient of Board of Trustees Distinguished Faculty Award

Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen was honored as the Board of Trustees Distinguished Faculty Award recipient at the 2019 Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 5.

Dr. Virtanen, an assistant professor of Finnish & Nordic Studies, joined Finlandia’s Suomi College of Arts and Sciences in 2014. She teaches 12 courses including Cultural Anthropology, Finnish Language, Gender in Nordic Society and the Kalevala. She also chairs the Institutional Review Board.
