2019 FinnU Homecoming Schedule of Events

The official schedule of events for the 2019 Finlandia Homecoming Week on Sept. 30-Oct. 5 has been set. The official theme of the week will be Welcome to the Jungle. Events will include a spirit week, Riku’s Royalty voting, various sporting events and the annual parade which will go from Quincy Green to McAfee field on Saturday morning.

Monday, Sept. 30

Spirit Day: Pajama Day

All Day: Poster Decorating at Finlandia Hall, Blue Warrior Challenge, Riku’s Royalty Voting

Tuesday, Oct. 1

Spirit Day: Twin Tuesday

All Day: Poster Decorating at Finlandia Hall, Blue Warrior Challenge, Riku’s Royalty Voting

Wednesday, Oct. 2

Spirit Day: Camo

All Day: Poster Decorating at Finlandia Hall, Blue Warrior Challenge, Riku’s Royalty Voting

4:00PM: Women’s Soccer v. Northland. Dress in camo and support the women’s soccer team!

Thursday, Oct. 3

Spirit Day: Throwback Thursday

All Day: Poster Decorating at Finlandia Hall, Blue Warrior Challenge, Last day of voting for Riku’s Royalty

12PM: Taste of Success with Stephen Szuber ’77. Join us at Mannerheim Central as we talk with Stephen Szuber, the former NAFTA Regional Lead at Fiat Chrysler. Free pizza will be served.

4-6PM: Community Service Event. Help us clear out the Servant Leadership House’s attic to make way for a new communal space. For alumni who haven’t been on campus recently, the Servant Leadership House was formerly the Robinson House.

7:30PM: Student Senate Mock Rock. Sign up with a group or perform a solo act in this lip-sync battle extraordinaire. Cash prizes are available for the top three performances.

Friday, Oct. 4

Spirit Day: Safari

10AM: Campus Tour. Join Finlandia student ambassadors on a tour of campus and see what’s changed since being in school.

11:30AM-1PM: Alumni & Student Lunch. Join students at the Finlandia Hall cafe and enjoy a delicious meal. Cost: $8.50

2PM: Campus Tour. If you missed the morning tour, join the Finlandia student ambassadors on a tour of campus in the afternoon and see what’s changed since being in school.

8PM: Sisu Classic Women’s Volleyball v Buena Vista. Dress in your best safari gear and support the volleyball team as they compete in the Sisu Classic Volleyball Tournament. Riku’s Royalty will be crowned and the Blue Warrior will be named.

Saturday, Oct. 5

Spirit Day: Welcome to the Jungle

9AM: Sisu Classic Women’s Volleyball v Grace Christian. Dress in your best Welcome to the Jungle outfit and support the volleyball team as they compete in the Sisu Classic Volleyball Tournament.

10AM: Alumni Memorial Service. Join us outside of Old Main as we honor those who have passed in the last year. If you are unable to attend, but would like to have a loved one honored, please complete this short form.

10:45AM: Shuttle starts from McAfee Field to Quincy Green. Park your car at McAfee Field then be shuttled to Quincy Green for the Homecoming Parade.

11:30AM: Homecoming Parade. We’ll go from Quincy Green to McAfee Field in this parade designed to bring together the Finlandia and Hancock community.

12PM: Pep Rally at McAfee Stadium. Get pumped as we celebrate all things FinnU. We’ll honor our student athletes, seniors and alumni. We’ll also have fun games and competitions before the real game begins.

12PM: Tailgating officially begins. Set up your truck and drop the tailgate as tailgating kicks off. Please note the tailgating area is behind the North End Zone at McAfee Field.

1PM: Football v Olivet. Wear your best Welcome to the Jungle gear and support the Finlandia Lions as they take on Olivet.

3PM: Sisu Classic Women’s Volleyball v Mount Mary. The Sisu Classic Tournament continues into the afternoon as the Lions take on Mount Mary.

Bonus: Sunday, Oct. 6

Spirit Day: White-Out

2PM: Men’s Soccer v White Water. Stick around for the men’s soccer game v White Water and wear all white to support to the Lions.

What is the Blue Warrior Challenge?

The Blue Warrior Challenge is a spirit competition among students. The Blue Warrior is a student who showcases their Lion Pride the best by posting photos of themselves on social media for each Spirit Day. Students can use #BlueWarrior or #FinnUHomecoming to be entered, and the winner will receive a $50 gift card to North Wind Books in addition to the title of the 2019 Blue Warrior which comes with eternal fame and glory. The Blue Warrior will be announced at the Volleyball game on Friday, Oct. 4. Must be present to win.

What is Riku’s Royalty?

Riku’s Royalty provides students with a chance to vote for who they believe embodies Finlandia’s mission of dedication to personal growth, academic excellence and service. Students will nominate other students the week prior to Homecoming via social media and vote on social media the week of Homecoming for the winners. Two winners will be announced at the Volleyball game on Friday, Oct. 4. Must be present to win.
