Dekker helps to publish 80-year-old Jean Toomer manuscript

Finlandia University Assistant Professor of English Dr. Carolyn Dekker played the key role of editor in the recently published book A Drama of the Southwest: The Critical Edition of a Forgotten Play. The book is put together from a manuscript written by famous writer Jean Toomer, who passed away in 1967. The heavily credited Harlem Renaissance author wrote the play back in 1935. The unpolished manuscript found the hands of Dekker, and was published in February of this year.

Finlandia students compete in THE Project 2016 state-wide project management competition

For the second time Finlandia University participated in THE Project 2016, a project management competition sponsored by the Western Michigan Chapter of the Project Management Institute. This year’s competition featured 12 teams from eight Michigan universities. Dr. Kemppainen is currently on the Finlandia University Board of Trustees, serves as principal at Graveraet Elementary School in Marquette and assistant principal at Marquette Senior High School.

Nordic Film Series wraps season with Norwegian movie

A Norwegian movie based on a famous novel concludes the 2015-16 season for the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC).

“Victoria” will show at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 in the Martha Wiljanen Community Hall of the FAHC.

Writers of the Northern Persuasion Author Forum

The eighth annual Finlandia University Campus Read concludes Saturday with the inaugural Writers of the Northern Persuasion author forum. The forum is free, open to the public and family friendly. It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Finnish American Heritage Center on Quincy Street in Hancock.

Finlandia University 2016 graduation is May 1

Finlandia University baccalaureate and commencement activities for the class of 2016 are scheduled for Sunday, May 1, on the university’s campus in Hancock.

Exercises for Graduation Day 2016 will begin Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with the Baccalaureate Worship Service at the Chapel of St. Matthew, and conclude with the Commencement Exercises at 1:30 p.m. at Paavo Nurmi Center.
