Navy veteran Marie Bonenfant hired in student accounts

Finlandia University has hired Marie Bonenfant to the position of Coordinator of Student Accounts. Bonenfant is from Lake Linden, a Navy veteran and Finlandia alumnus. She started at Finlandia on Monday.

“When I came here as a student it was the first thing I did as a civilian,” Bonenfant said. “It felt like home then, and coming here now it once again feels like I’m coming home.”

The City of Hancock will host the first Quincy Street Block Party on Thursday, June 23 with festivities running from 5 to 8 p.m. on the 100 block of Quincy Street in Downtown Hancock.

Traverse City-based fiber arts artist Emily Pierce (’08), recently completed work for Daughters of the King, Province V.

Up-and-coming poet Danez Smith will be the featured artist for the 2016-17 Finlandia University Campus Read.

President Johnson to lead service of remembrance, grief and protest

The Finlandia University community is invited to join in a service of rememberance, grief, and protest on Thursday, June 23 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew. President Philip Johnson will lead the brief service of readings and meditation.

Bianucci adds role of alumni contact at Finlandia

This week Finlandia University President Philip Johnson announced that Laura Bianucci will be assuming the role of alumni contact for the university.

“Laura has been an integral member of our admissions staff for the past two years,” Johnson said. “She played a role during our all-school reunion in 2015, and we’re looking forward to having her work with our many talented and passionate alumni around the world moving forward.”

Dostaler joins Finlandia’s admissions staff

Finlandia University is excited to welcome Kelly Dostaler to the university’s family as the new coordinator of admissions operations. Dostaler began her duties Monday, June 13. She is taking over the role previously held by Stacy Froese, who is taking over the role of accountant and accounts payable specialist in Finlandia’s business office.

Six Finlandia University students and two staff members traveled to Tanzania in May for the 11th annual Service and Learning in Tanzania experience.

During their three weeks in Tanzania, students participate in curricular and co-curricular activities at Kisarawe Lutheran Jr. Seminary (a secondary school), shadow nurses at the national hospital, and stay with host families. These relationship building opportunities along with accompanying reflection activities help students grow in their understanding of Servant Leadership and engage in self-exploration.
