What’s brewing in Art and Design with Gini Brewer

September 7, 2018

This week Finlandia Fridays was joined by Gini Brewer the International School of Art and Design (ISAD) coordinator. Stepping into the role this year, Brewer is in charge of helping students with admissions processes as well as doing administrative assistant tasks within the Art and Design department.Gini Brewer

Brewer, who studied fiber and fashion design at Finlandia, said that being able to study and work at FinnU has been like “coming home.” Initially starting her studies when Finlandia was still known as Suomi College, Brewer took several years off and ended up coming back because of the small, family-like atmosphere.

Portfolio Reviews for aspiring art students

In the admissions process, Brewer will be helping prospective students with portfolio reviews. While the reviews may seem intimidating, Brewer assured the Finlandia Fridays audience that they are to help students be better artists. Brewer stated that in the reviews, she is looking for originality, skill set, and pieces that are finished. Portfolio review sessions will be offered throughout the year at Finlandia. All information for the reviews can be found in the Art and Design webpage.

New Faces in ISAD

Brewer isn’t the only new person in ISAD, the school also has a new adjunct professor this semester Lindsey Heiden. Heiden will be teaching Art Business and Art Entrepreneurship. Heiden recently graduated with her MFA and will bring new insight to the business classes offered here at FinnU.

Scholarships for Art and Design students

The Brule Scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship offered at FinnU for an incoming freshman or transfer student. Students who apply will have a portfolio review as well as an interview to complete the application. Brule Scholarship information will be posted later this semester for the 2019-2020 school year. Students looking to transfer into any ISAD programs are also eligible for a $10,000 scholarship only offered to transfer students.
