Student Senate invites ideas for Mannerheim Central project

Student Senate President Allison Cooper visited Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about a few upcoming initiatives the group has planned, including the transformation of Mannerheim Central. 

Cooper shared that on the next two upcoming Tuesdays, September 20 and September 27, Student Senate will be stationed outside Finlandia Hall Café from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to hear student opinions on what they would like to see done with the open space in Mannerheim Central. 

“It’s important for students to give us their input to kind of get it shaped into what they want it to be,” Cooper said. “We’ll be there at lunchtime, 11:30 to 1:30, and any students that give us a suggestion will be entered to win a BIGGBY set. It’s a pretty good deal if you ask me!”

Cooper also shared that in speaking with President Pinnow over the last few weeks, some of the suggested ideas thus far have been a 24-hour student lounge, a game room or even a convenience store. 

Cooper, a nursing major and president of the Finlandia Student Nurses Association, also shared insight into her experience in FinnU’s nursing program.

“Being able to build a relationship with not just [classmates] but the instructors have been amazing. I will have lifelong friends and network connections because of this,” Cooper said. “The small class sizes have also enhanced my learning experience because I get that one-on-one time which I one, love, and two, need!”

At the end of the show, Cooper builds on what Student Senate advisor Alex Hilterbrand shared on the show last week, adding dates to a few upcoming events this fall including Mental Health Week during the first week of October, Mock Rock on October 26, and Finn Fair on November 3.
