New Host Julia Nordstrom suggests places to explore in the Keweenaw

With a start of the 2019-2020 school year, Finlandia University is starting a new season of Lion Around, a student-run podcast.

Nicholas Kwiek new Academic Career Coach at TRIO Student Support Services

Finlandia University is excited to welcome Nicholas Kwiek as the new TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) academic career coach. Kwiek earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Kenyon College and is working on his Masters of Education in Online Innovation and Design from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Finlandia Fridays is back and kicks off season 4 with new Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Grace Sokolow. Hired this past July, Sokolow talks about her move to Finlandia, her coaching background, as well as her expectations for the rest of the season.

Kurt Hilden (’71) Grateful for Liberal Arts Education; LGBTQ Allies at FinnU

Kurt Hilden’s (’71) journey through life has been anything but boring.

A native of the Copper Country, Hilden graduated from Lake Linden high school in 1969. Despite moving west, a moment of Hilden’s family history is forever captured at the Houghton County Museum in Lake Linden in the form of a painting of his paternal grandfather’s family by the Finnish artist, Toyra. Hilden described the painting at “primitive” but it is registered with the Smithsonian.

2019 FinnU Homecoming Schedule of Events

The official schedule of events for the 2019 Finlandia Homecoming Week on Sept. 30-Oct. 5 has been set. The official theme of the week will be Welcome to the Jungle. Events will include a spirit week, Riku’s Royalty voting, various sporting events and the annual parade which will go from Quincy Green to McAfee field on Saturday morning.

Professional Portrait Session Scheduled for Tuesday, September 10

All faculty, staff and students are invited to have a professional portrait taken on Tuesday, September 10 at Finlandia Hall’s Dinning Room. New employees are highly encouraged to attend. This session will run from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

For Robert Lake (BFA, ’07), design has always been an important part of his life.
