Physical Therapist Assistant Program Page Updated

Finlandia University’s physical therapist assistant (PTA) program is the latest recipient of an updated academic program page.

Much like previously updated academic program pages, the physical therapist assistant program page is geared more toward incoming and prospective students. The updated page features videos highlighting the program from the perspective of faculty and alumni. There is also an emphasis placed on visuals throughout the page, showing visitors what to expect from the PTA program.

Finnish American Heritage Center publishes cookbook that’s more than recipes

The Finns’ influence on Copper Country food ways is well documented.

Now, it’s also well compiled.

The Finnish American Heritage Center has recently completed a picture and story laden cookbook titled “Tastes of Finnish America: Foods That Make Us Smile.”

New movie has a pacifistic take on legendary Finnish story

The celebration of Finland’s 100th Independence Day marked the completion of a remake of a legendary film based on a legendary book, “The Unknown Soldier.” This 2017 movie was the most expensive movie production in the history of Finland, with a budget of 7 million euros, and the film was the first Finnish movie to surpass 1 million viewers at the cinema in the last 50 years.

Deadline for scholarship for freshman women is March 1

Freshman women at Finlandia University have a unique opportunity to receive a scholarship that can be used during the 2018-19 academic year in the Virginia Fund Scholarship. Applications are now being accepted. They are due by March 1.

The scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and contribution to campus life. Applications will be reviewed by the Academic Achievement Committee. Students of all majors are invited to apply.

Chairman of the Board for Finnish company Ponsse presenting at Finlandia on February 13

Finlandia University is thrilled to welcome Juha Vidgren, Chairman of the Board, Ponsse PIc,, to campus. Vidgren has been on the board of Ponsse since 2000, and with the company since 1998.

Vidgren will be giving a presentation at the Finnish American Heritage Center on Wednesday, February 13 at 3 p.m. The presentation, titled How a one man operation in rural Finland became a global leader, will center around the idea of what anyone can accomplish if they apply themselves.

Institutional Review Board hosting workshop February 13

Students and employees are invited to join the Finlandia University Institutional Review Board (IRB) Committee for a step-by-step workshop in completing and submitting an IRB application on Wednesday, February 13 from 12 to 1 p.m. in Mannerheim Central.

This workshop will serve to assist current seniors finalizing their capstone research protocols. It will also be useful to other students considering research projects involving human subjects as well as faculty who want to navigate changes in the IRB application process [...]

Dan Weldon (‘17) is an ambitious man. As a Regulatory Controls Manager at J.P. Morgan in Chicago, he is showing that a degree in sociology can be beneficial in the business world.
