FinnU closed January 30, 2019 due to adverse weather

Due to adverse weather, Finlandia University classes beginning at or after 6 p.m. tonight will be cancelled. FinnU will be also closed tomorrow, January 30, 2019. Only those providing essential services to students should report (Food Service, Maintenance, and Security).

Ponsse Einari Vidgrén Foundation Internship application is due Friday

Once again, Ponsse and Finlandia University are pleased to announce an exclusive internship position for a Finlandia University student at Ponsse North America in Rhinelander, Wisconsin (approximately two weeks) and Ponsse Plc headquarters in Vieremä, Finland (approximately three weeks). This paid internship will enable the student to learn first-hand about Ponsse, its operations, and the forest industry both here in the USA and in Finland.

Leading the Pride Solves Crimes with Cold Case Homicide Detective, Clem Papineau Pt. 1

Finlandia’s alumni podcast Leading the Pride is back this month and solving crimes with Cold Case Homicide Detective Clem Papineau. Unlike past alumni featured on Leading the Pride, Papineau attended Suomi College from 1975-76 but transferred before completing his associates degree in Criminal Justice.

New Accounting Program Page Launched

Finlandia University is happy announce the latest new and improved academic program page.

The Accounting program page features more visuals and less text, and is geared more toward incoming and prospective students who are looking specifically at FinnU’s accounting program. The page showcases faculty and alumni interviews and highlights the unique aspects of the program such as the versatility of an accounting degree, personalized internships and experienced accountants leading the classroom.

Tracy Henderson joins Registrar’s Practices Committee

This fall Assistant Registrar Tracy Henderson joined the Registrar’s Practice Committee, part of the larger Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers (MACRAO). MACRAO is for the exchange of information between registrars and admissions officers in order to contribute to the advancement of education in the state of Michigan.

Fourth annual MLK Day of Service included more than 200 volunteers

Finlandia University students, staff and faculty were all over the Copper Country community on Monday as they recognized Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by performing community service. In total 203 people, including 181 students, participated in 20 volunteer opportunities spanning from Calumet to South Range and just about everywhere in between.

Sophomore art students get soupy on Finlandia Fridays

Art students Emma Mackey and Blue Kenwood dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week. Both Mackey and Kenwood are sophomores in the International School of Art and Design, and members of the Young Women’s Caucus of Art (YWCA).

Due to worsening weather conditions, classes beginning at 4 p.m. or later today, January 24, 2019 are cancelled.

Additional Notes 2:35 p.m. – The film for this evening has also been cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday, January 31 at 6 p.m. in Wargelin 303. 2:58 p.m. – Dining Services will operate on an inclement weather schedule for dinner this evening. Young Women’s Caucus for Art Hosts Annual Soup & Art Auction

On February 2, the Finlandia University chapter of the Young Women’s Caucus for Art will host their annual fundraiser, the Soup & Art Auction.

“No matter if you just buy a bowl for soup or bid on a piece, you’re helping us fundraise to go on our annual trip,” said Emma Mackey, President of the organization.
