Student PTA Club “Shut Your Pie Hole” Contest.

The revival of the Student PTA Club at Finlandia University has brought a number of charitable events to campus since its reboot last fall. Led by club advisor and PTA Instructor Sami Dowling (’10), the student organization is ramping up its efforts this semester through two fundraisers, a February can drive and a March event called Soup for Soles.

The Honors and Awards Banquet is upon us and all faculty and staff are invited to nominate deserving students for scholarships and awards. The event is dependent upon faculty and staff nominations so please take a few minutes to nominate students you believe to be good candidates by March 10. Applications Now Being Accepted for 2022 Virginia Fund Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Virginia Fund Scholarship, which is open to all freshman women at Finlandia University. The scholarship, typically $250-500 is awarded based on academic achievement and contribution to campus life. Applications will be reviewed by the Academic Achievement Committee and the winner will be announced in the coming weeks. The Virginia Fund Scholarship will be applied to the 2022-23 academic year. Applications Open for 2022 Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing

Nursing students heading into their junior or senior year with a GPA between 3.00 to 3.49 may be eligible for the Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing. Application deadline for the scholarship is Monday, March 07.

The amount of scholarships and money awarded will depend on the quantity and quality of applications. Students who want to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year, and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.

Hirvonen Hall mural raises awareness of mental health

You won’t be able to miss the new addition to the third floor of Hirvonen Hall, a 20-foot canvas painted by campus and community members. The mural, located in Finlandia’s College of Health Sciences building, seemingly appeared out of thin air, but guiding sketches pinned to the wall traced us back to one of the most renowned mural artists in the area, Mariana Nakashima.

Finlandia is pleased to welcome Ed.D. Luke Morrill to lead its Student Affairs staff as new Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students. Luke brings with him 17 years of experience working in student affairs and higher education.
