Meet the MLK Day of Service keynote speaker, Nicole Newman

Monday morning at 10 a.m. all students, faculty and staff from Finlandia University are invited to the Finnish American Heritage Center for one of the most exciting events of the second annual MLK Day of Service – the keynote speaker! This year’s speaker is Nicole Newman.

Study abroad scholarship through CCSA now available

The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA) is accepting applications through February 24, 2017 for the $1,000 CCSA Story Teller Scholarship. The Storyteller Scholarship encourages student participation in CCSA programs by offering a means for students to tell their own CCSA stories.

The awardee must be enrolled in a CCSA program, be a full-time student and complete the requirements, which includes an essay, statement regarding intended design and a sample of past creative work. The awardee is [...]

Ponsse Einari Vidgrén Foundation Internship application period is now open

Joyce Koskenmaki’s Retrospective opens January 19

EXHIBIT DATES: JANUARY 19 – FEBRUARY 18, 2017

Please join us for an opening reception on Thursday, January 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m. with the artist talk beginning at 7:15 p.m.

Finlandia University Gallery presents Joyce Koskenmaki: Retrospective, an exhibit of paintings, drawings, and mixed media work spanning Koskenmaki’s lifetime career in the arts.  Koskenmaki’s work will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock, from January 19 to February 18, 2017.

MLK Day of Service volunteer site signups now open

Students participating in Finlandia University’s second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service are invited to sign up for their service site now.

“As of right now we have 19 service sites needing over 130 students available for students to volunteer at,” said René Johnson, a member of the Equity and Diversity Committee at FinnU. “This should make for a great day here at Finlandia University.”

Heritage Center to launch Finnish American folk school

“Although our region maintains a strong ethnic pride in its Finnish roots, the loss of language and traditional arts and crafts has left many among our residents very little onto which they can attach their ethnic identity.”

North Wind Books presents local author Kristin Neva for a book signing and reading on Wednesday, January 18 from 4 to 6 p.m.
