Dr. Jason Oyadomari named dean at Finlandia

Dr. Jason Oyadomari has been named Dean of the Suomi College of Arts and Sciences (SCAS) at Finlandia University. Dr. Oyadomari has been serving as the Interim Dean for more than a year.

Travel Channel visits Keweenaw for Finnish cuisine

In the most recent episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, which premiered March 7, the Travel Channel show’s host visited several featured locations around the Keweenaw, sampling the signature cuisine of the area.

Kassandra Avila and Emily Nguyen sit down with Finlandia Fridays and hit on everything softball. Avila and Nguyen are both freshmen at Finlandia University and come from the Southern California area.

Table Tennis Tournament brings back youthful memories for President Johnson

President Philip Johnson has a long history with table tennis, as he has been playing since grade school. He grew up with four older sisters, and a ping pong table always in the basement.

“My sister, Beth, was the one closest to me in age, and the one that I played the most. She was the most competitive,” President Johnson explained. “We used to play all the time growing up.”

Alumnus Jason Rice welcomed back as Professional Tutor

Finlandia University is excited to welcome back Jason Rice as a professional tutor. Rice is a former Finlandia student, attending 1998 through 2002. While attending the university, Rice received his Bachelor’s degree in rural human services with a concentration on liberal studies and a Bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a concentration on literature and religion/philosophy. Rice has also work toward his MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Hawaii Pacific University.

Online registration for Spring 2017 remains open until Dec. 7

Please note: Registration can still be done through your academic advisor or the registrar’s office after December 7. 

If you have not signed up for spring 2017 classes yet, please be aware that the online registration window closes at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7 th.  Students that do not register by this deadline may still register, however, it will need to be done either in-person with your advisor or by submitting a signed paper registration card to the Registrar’s office [...]

E-mail system changes are coming

Finlandia University will be making important changes to our e-mail system over the winter holiday break (between semesters). Beginning Wednesday, December 21, we will be migrating our e-mail service to a different e-mail provider. This change is part of our ongoing effort to bring improved technical services to our campus community.

Nordic Film Series opens with local documentary UP a River

The 2016-17 season of the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) gets under way with a film every Upper Michigan outdoorsman and outdoorswoman must see. On Thursday, October 13, the series opens with showings of the locally produced documentary “UP a River.”
