James Brey joins admissions staff

Finlandia University is excited to welcome Hancock-native James Brey to the Admissions team as an Enrollment Officer. Brey has a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Finlandia.

“I’m excited to add Jim to our admissions team,” said Admissions Director, Collin Saint-Onge. “He brings a passion for the school and area that can’t be matched. He will do great in this role and I look forward to working with him and learning from him.”

Finnish American Historical Archive welcomes Finnish intern Anni Arvo

Anni Arvio (second from left in the above photo), the new intern at the Finnish American Historical Archive, is excited to spend her summer in Hancock, though she’s already making plans to help her get over the part of Finnish life she’s going to miss terribly.

Miss the Online Registration Deadline? Fear Not!

So, you missed the deadline. You lost track of time, end of the semester got the best of you. Don’t worry, there’s still time. While you may have missed the online deadline, students can still go see their advisors to register for next semester classes.

Wait, what’s that? Your advisor is gone for the summer?!

No big deal, there’s still an option for you. Make sure to contact the Dean of your Department or Erin Barnett, Dean of Students.

Late Night Breakfast is Sunday starting at 10

On Sunday night the longstanding tradition of Late Night Breakfast will continue, and will once again include a little help from students’ friends in TRIO Student Support Services as Tutoring will be available in Finlandia Hall prior to breakfast. This event is free and all students are encouraged to attend. Staff from all over Finlandia’s campus will be on hand to serve breakfast, while TRIO SSS staff will be available for tutoring.

Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the annual Diploma Works Exhibition. Both students are graduating from the International School for Art + Design (ISAD). The exhibition highlights work from the graduating class. This year 10 seniors will have work on display.

Students interested in selling back their textbooks may begin doing so at North Wind Books today. This is a great opportunity to get top dollar back for your used textbooks. In addition, selling back and buying used textbooks helps save trees and other natural resources. The complete list of buyback dates and times is listed below.

CCSA Winter 2018-19 study abroad programs now open for enrollment

The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad Winter 2018-19 programs are now open for enrollment.

Programs include London Winter, London Arts & Literature, London Theater, London & Dublin: Two Capitals and the newest option New Zealand: Treasures of the South Pacific.

Participants can receive up to three credits for the programs and scholarships are available through CCSA. The London programs run from Dec. 26 – Jan. 8, while the New Zealand program goes from Dec. 26 – Jan. [...]

Finlandia students created a delicious array of food for their fellow students, staff, and faculty, and community members at the annual Diversity Dinner last night. Dishes included bolitas de mofongo, arroz con leche, jambalaya, carne frita, sushi, and karjalan piirakka with egg butter. Leijona Martial Arts Club participates in tournament in Illinois

Eleven Members of the Leijona Martial Arts club traveled to St. Charles, IL on March 23-24 for the Soo Bahk Do Region 5 championship. Club advisors Dr. Carolyn Dekker, Assistant Professor of English and Dr. Juan Marin, Associate Professor of Mathematics, club instructor Kyo Sa Nim Shawn Hammond, Senior Art & Design major Zong Deng, Junior Nursing major Charles Patch, Sophomore Philosophy major Harold Noble, as well as five younger community members, were in attendance.
