Lindsey Johnson’s Finnish Adventures

This week on Finlandia Fridays, management and entrepreneurship Senior, Lindsey Johnson joins hosts Olivia Myers and Devin O’Neill to discuss her summer marketing internship here in Hancock and her study abroad experience in Finland. 

Johnson, no stranger to Finlandia Fridays, was a guest last spring previewing her upcoming plans for the summer. Now that she’s back she was excited to share her experience.

Over the summer, Johnson had the opportunity to intern with Marko Luoma, who opened his own business, Xport, with his siblings. Luoma’s business focuses on helping businesses break into the international market. 

Johnson was able to gain experience in cold calling and researching, as well as reaching out to business about new potential opportunities in the American or European market.  

“It was a really cool experience, I did a lot of market research,” said Johnson. “There are six companies in Finland that are looking to come into the American market, I did a lot of market research for them. And I contacted businesses here to see if anyone wants to start exporting to the European market.”

After her internship, Johnson traveled to Finland, where she lived in Helsinki. While there Johnson took a class on Service, Sales and entrepreneurship and traveled to places like Estonia.

Johnson said her experience was great, and gave her the opportunity to learn a lot about other countries. FinnU offers numerous study abroad opportunities for students. Head over to finlandia’s global initiatives page to learn more.
