Finlandia Fridays Season 7 Premiere with President Tim Pinnow

Welcome back to Finlandia Fridays!

In this Season 7 premiere episode, Finlandia’s new president, Tim Pinnow, joins the show for an exciting conversation with host Jordan Shawhan. The pair discuss a variety of topics including Pinnow’s vision for Finlandia and his excitement for the fall semester to begin.

“I hope that Finlandia University continues to be a small university in the middle of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that speaks to students’ needs; that offers students an opportunity to really get to know not only their professors but the staff and their fellow students,” Pinnow said. “I want this to be a place where everyone knows everyone, where it’s hard for a student to fall through the cracks because we’re small enough to know what’s going on. I’ve taught at big universities, I’ve taught at medium-sized universities, I’ve taught at small universities: Small is better, small is beautiful.”

The pair also talked about Pinnow’s experience at Suomi College in his youth. Over the course of two summers, Pinnow spent several weeks at the institution engaging in Lutheran leadership training from where he said his “life of service” began. When it comes to the excitement of kicking off his first fall semester at the university, Pinnow said he is looking forward to the energy students bring to campus.

“I was a faculty member for 32 years at various institutions and the one day you just can’t beat is the day the students come back,” Pinnow said. “That day is quite like no other.”
