Filing Your FAFSA with Marie Bonenfant

The FAFSA is officially open!

This week, Finlandia Fridays host Olivia Myers talks with Financial Aid Counselor Marie Bonenfant about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which opened on Oct. 1. The pair talked about why it’s important for all students to complete and how submitting it allows FinnU’s financial aid office to see what scholarships, grants and federal loans a student is eligible for.

“It’s one of the most important steps that students and their families can take to pay for college,” said Bonenfant.

In addition, Bonenfant also touched on FinnU’s Early FAFSA Scholarship available for full-time students in good standing. The Early FAFSA  Scholarship is a one-time $500 Fall 2021 award given to those who file their FAFSA by January 1, 2021.  This will be awarded to the student upon acceptance to the university and the financial aid office receiving the FAFSA.

The FAFSA is also crucial in determining a student’s eligibility for Finlandia’s need-based scholarships, including the Rise Together Scholarship, which offers free full tuition, and the Western Great Lakes Scholarship, which is up to $4000 for students from Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.
