Dining Services eager for 2017-18 academic year

September 6, 2017

Tim Nakkula is back at the helm for Finlandia University Dining Services, moving back into the role of director during the summer break. In addition to Nakkula’s move, the department also welcomes new cook Tom Goldstein, food service workers Avery Neal and Terrance Fuller, and cashiers Ashley Nakkula, Kendra Baril and Clancy Tunstall.

“I am excited to be back as the Director of Dining Services at Finlandia,” Tim Nakkula said. “I am fortunate to have a great staff whom I have worked with for many years, and my new staff bring many years of food service experience with them. In short we have all the ingredients to make this year a recipe for success.”

The group served up a great meal Sunday night to all faculty, staff and students following the opening convocation. It’s just a sign of good things to come from the department.

“We look forward to serving students, faculty and staff, and I encourage everyone to feel free to stop by to discuss new menu ideas, favorite recipes, special dietary or allergy issues,” said Nakkula, who can be reached via e-mail at tim.nakkula@finlandia.edu or via phone at (906) 487-7374.

Several other changes are in place for the department, including a new 10-meal punch card being available for $60. Employees are welcome to purchase these using payroll deduction if they purchase at least two of them. Individual meals may be purchased for $7. In addition, the department is no longer partnering with food service contractor A’viands, and is not doing outside catering events during this academic year.

The Lions Brew Coffee Shop will continue to serve coffee and other snacks at extended hours. Other food options on campus include the 5th and Elm location in Nikander Hall, which is open 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Kangas Café in the Jutila Center.

Hours and a weekly menu for Finlandia University Dining Services can always be found at finlandia.edu/diningservices.
