Finlandia remains Fight the Flu champion

This winter, the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health brought Upper Peninsula universities together for the second annual Fight the Flu competition. Students, staff and faculty from Finlandia UniversityMichigan Technological University and Northern Michigan University competed to see which school could get the highest percentage of its total population vaccinated against the flu. Based on the self-reported statistics, the winner for the second year in a row is Finlandia University, coming in at a 17.6% vaccination rate.

Finlandia University names Tim Pinnow as next president

Finlandia University has elected Tim Pinnow, Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at Colorado Mesa University (CMU), as its 17th president following a unanimous vote by the University’s Board of Trustees. He will assume his presidency on July 1, 2022.

Finlandia honors graduating Class of 2022

On Sunday, May 1, Finlandia University held its annual Spring Commencement Ceremony honoring 84 graduates in the Class of 2022. There was standing room only in the Hirvonen Hall Auditorium with more than 700 in attendance.

In his greeting, President Johnson opened with Finlandia’s Land Acknowledgment:

Applications now open for 2022-23 Portage Health Foundation Scholarship at Finlandia University

Applications are now being accepted for the Portage Health Foundation Scholarship opportunity to Finlandia University students studying healthcare and coming from Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga or Ontonagon counties. The scholarship can be awarded to the same person for up to four years.

This scholarship is open to returning and incoming FinnU students.

Student Nurses Association hosting 2022 breakfast benefit April 2 for Omega House

The Finlandia University Student Nurses Association (FUSNA) is hosting its annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 2 at Gloria Dei Church in Hancock from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Proceeds of the event will benefit the Omega House in Houghton. Similar to 2021, the event will be curbside pick-up only.

Taking a spin on the hit TV show “Shark Tank”, Finlandia University held its inaugural FinnU Shark Day on Wednesday, March 9 with more than 60 high school students from L’anse, Baraga Area and Calumet in attendance. Finlandia College of Health Sciences announces plans for Towsley Foundation Grant

Since 1998, the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation has partnered with Finlandia University in providing instrumental funding toward technology and equipment. The Foundation’s most recent expression came as a five-year $220,000 grant to provide a robust, state-of-the-art healthcare education for FinnU College of Health Sciences students at their new facility.
