Student Nurses Association president presents 20th annual benefit for Omega House

March 25, 2022

Haley Wright SNA Blood DriveFinlandia University’s Student Nurses Association (FUSNA) is celebrating its 20th annual benefit for Omega House on April 2. What began in 2002 as a spaghetti dinner has become one of the most popular pancake breakfasts in the Western U.P.

On this week’s episode of Finlandia Fridays, senior nursing student and Student Nurses Association president Haley Wright joins the show to talk about the upcoming benefit breakfast that has raised more than $25,000 for Omega House.

“They are a hospice house, so people who have a terminal illness or are nearing the end of their life can go there for comfort care and just to be surrounded by people that care for them,” Wright said. “Omega House relies on donations to keep going each year and we’re really fortunate as the SNA to be able to provide donations each year and we do that mainly through the pancake breakfast.”

The event will be held on Saturday, April 2 at Gloria Dei Church in Hancock from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Similar to 2021, the event will be curbside pick-up only. Patrons can purchase a $5 ticket upon arrival which will include their to-go box of breakfast food of their choosing. Fresh fruit and baked goods will be available for sale along with raffle tickets to enter prize drawings throughout the day.

A Traverse City, MI native, Wright also shares some of the important factors that went into her decision to attend Finlandia and what she loves about the Keweenaw.

“I have always loved the U.P. I was drawn to Finlandia specifically because of its small size and they advertise that they don’t have a waitlist for their nursing program whereas a lot of schools do have a waitlist, and so, that really intrigued me. I just think that the Copper Country is beautiful.”
