Each year Finlandia University students have the opportunity to truly get involved by becoming a student leader. Below is the application to make that happen.

Student Ambassador Description

The role of Finlandia Student Ambassador is to work as part of a highly motivated professional team, supporting a variety of departments across Finlandia University and representing the University in a variety of settings, including school visits and community outreach events. This includes, but is not limited to, Preview Days, campus visits, homecoming, Check-in Days, New Student Orientation, alumni class reunions, and other city and campus wide engagement activities. Student Ambassadors are also responsible for providing excellent customer service and for providing accurate information about the University from a student perspective directing visitors and giving them relevant knowledge of Finlandia University and its facilities.

Commitment required: This post is flexible around your academic studies, as academic commitments should come first. The required accompanying UNS course is in a hybrid format to allow flexible participation and class meeting times will be determined after all ambassadors have a finalized course schedule. Ambassadors must commit to two consecutive terms of service (spring and summer); spring and fall; fall and spring), but may serve in this leadership position beyond the two term commitment.

  • $1,200 per semester scholarship

Orientation Leader

As a representative of Finlandia University, Orientation Leaders (OLs) serve as role models and are responsible for welcoming and introducing new students and their families to Finlandia University from check-in on Thursday, August 22rd through the conclusion of the orientation activities on Sunday, August 24th. In working with students and their families, OLs facilitate the transition process and act as the first link to the University community. In addition, he or she is involved in the implementation and execution of the Orientation programs.

  • $300 Scholarship
  • Commitment:  August 19 – August 21.

Resident Assistant

The goal of the Resident Assistant (RA) position is to be a primary contact for students in the residence hall living environment and to be the primary assistant to the Director of Residence Life. The RA is responsible for the social, academic, personal and cultural development of their floor and is responsible for articulating and supporting the philosophy and policies of Finlandia University to the students in their residence hall and on their floor.

  • Requirements: Minimum 2.5 GPA, full time status (12 credits/semester), Completion of at least 24 credit hours at Finlandia University, One semester of living in residence hall.
  • Preferred: Minimum 3.0 GPA, two full semesters of living in a residence hall
  • Dates of Employment:
    • August 7, 2019 (by 5:00 p.m.) – November 23, 2019 (Residence hall closes at Noon)
    • November 30, 2019 – December 15, 2019 (Residence hall closes at Noon)
    • January 10, 2020 (by 12:00 p.m.) – February 29, 2020 (12:00 p.m.)
    • March 8, 2020 – May 3, 2020 (6:00 p.m.)
