Save $1,000 by tripling up in Finlandia Hall

Finlandia University students who will be residing in Finlandia Hall have the opportunity to save $1,000 over the year ($500 per semester) by living with three people in a room.

“You will get a discount from the university on your room charges,” Coordinator of Residential Life Leann Fogle said.

North Wind Books to be closed June 29-30

North Wind Books, the official book and apparel store of Finlandia University, will be closed on Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30, 2016. The store is closing for their annual inventory processing.

It will open again the afternoon of Friday, July 1.

Finlandia University Mail Center moves to limited summer hours

The Finlandia University Mail Center is now open summer hours, including limited hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Fridays.

The mail center is located in the basement of Mannerheim Hall. This is the center of all mail-related services for campus, and is the main university switchboard. For more information on the Finlandia University Mail Center visit finlandia.edu/offices-services/mail-center/.

Navy veteran Marie Bonenfant hired in student accounts

Finlandia University has hired Marie Bonenfant to the position of Coordinator of Student Accounts. Bonenfant is from Lake Linden, a Navy veteran and Finlandia alumnus. She started at Finlandia on Monday.

“When I came here as a student it was the first thing I did as a civilian,” Bonenfant said. “It felt like home then, and coming here now it once again feels like I’m coming home.”

The City of Hancock will host the first Quincy Street Block Party on Thursday, June 23 with festivities running from 5 to 8 p.m. on the 100 block of Quincy Street in Downtown Hancock.

President Johnson to lead service of remembrance, grief and protest

The Finlandia University community is invited to join in a service of rememberance, grief, and protest on Thursday, June 23 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew. President Philip Johnson will lead the brief service of readings and meditation.

Dostaler joins Finlandia’s admissions staff

Finlandia University is excited to welcome Kelly Dostaler to the university’s family as the new coordinator of admissions operations. Dostaler began her duties Monday, June 13. She is taking over the role previously held by Stacy Froese, who is taking over the role of accountant and accounts payable specialist in Finlandia’s business office.

Student loan interest rates fall to lowest levels in a decade

In mid-May the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities published the following story on student loan interest rates, which have been dropped to the lowest they’ve been in 10 years.

“This is great news for our students and their families,” Director of Student Financial Services Sandy Turnquist said. “We watch these rates carefully because we know this will affect the day-to-day lives of many students.”

Finlandia continues work on Terry Talo Lion’s Den at McAfee Field

On Monday a crew from LJJ Construction, Inc. will continue work on the first phase of the athletics fieldhouse at McAfee Field. The building which will house the Terry Talo Lion’s Den.

The project is expected to be finished in early August. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 3, during the football team’s home opener against Concordia College.
