Benefits of Dual Enrollment with Luke Paul

December 20, 2019

With the first semester of the school year complete, admissions officer Luke Paul dropped by Finlandia Fridays to tell host Olivia Myers more about FinnU’s Dual enrollment program for eligible high school students.

“Dual enrollment is an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to come and take a class on Finlandia’s campus or online,” said Paul. “It is a great opportunity for kids getting a jump start on their college careers.”

There are many advantages to being a dual-enrolled student, one benefit being that taking classes at Finlandia is free or a very low cost to students.  Most high schools will pay for students to take college courses and if your school does not, classes are $140 per credit, which is significantly cheaper than the normal price per credit hour.

Paul shares with Myers the biggest advantage of being a dual-enrolled student at FinnU, which is the $10,000 Finnish Strong Transfer Scholarship.  The Finnish Strong Transfer Scholarship is available to students who transfer into Finlandia with 6 or more credit hours. Dual Enrollment students have the opportunity to take 6 credit hours as a high school student and transfer to FinnU and receive the $10,000.

Dual enrollment students not only have the opportunity to jump start their college careers but have the opportunity to really experience what college is like. This opportunity helps them decide what is right for them and their education. Students who dual enroll on campus have the opportunity to attend athletic events and use the gym at the Paavo Nurmi center, just like full-time FinnU students.

There is still time to sign up for classes next semester. Students who are interested in the dual enrollment opportunity should speak with their high school guidance counselor or a FinnU admissions officer directly.
