Annual Flu Shot Clinic for Employees, Students On Oct. 12

September 30, 2020

All students and employees are invited to the annual Finlandia University Flu Shot Clinic on Monday, October 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Nikander 14A.

This event brings flu shots to campus in a joint effort between Finlandia nursing students, the Finlandia Wellness Committee and the UP Health System Portage. Employees with Finlandia’s insurance will be able to get the shot for free. Other insurances may be accepted, those interested should bring their insurance card and verify if they have flu shot coverage by their insurer prior to arriving. The shot is $40 without insurance.

According to the Center for Disease Control website, obtaining a flu shot is especially imperative this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Healthcare systems could be overwhelmed treating both patients with flu and patients with COVID-19. This means getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 is more important than ever.

While getting a flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, there are many important benefits, such as:

  1. Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death.
  2. Getting a flu vaccine can also save healthcare resources for the care of patients with COVID-19.
