International partnership offers unique experience in return of study abroad programs

Taking advantage of a student-exchange program between Business College Helsinki and Finlandia University, Jesper Hagelberg set off to Hancock, MI, from Finland in the fall of 2022 with an opportunity to compete in NCAA DIII athletics while expanding the boundaries of his education.

Gallery to return in January with Bonnie Peterson exhibit

Fiber artist Bonnie Peterson’s exhibit, Word Count, will open on January 9 as the Finlandia University Gallery returns to operations. The exhibit will run until February 15, 2023.

“I couldn’t be more excited to begin our new gallery season with Houghton artist Bonnie Peterson,” Gallery Director Carrie Flaspohler said. “The Copper Country is a stronghold of art and culture and Finlandia University Gallery is honored to display the work of an incredibly talented local artist as it relaunches operations.”

The Finnish American Folk School has released its winter 2023 class schedule! Established by the Finnish American Heritage Center and led by Phyllis Fredendall and Clare Zuraw, the Finnish American Folk School exists to ensure that Finnish-American folk traditions exist for centuries to come.

Explore the Finnish epic Kalevala at Finlandia University

Finlandia’s Finnish & Nordic Studies program invites students and auditors to explore the history of Kalevala.

Immortalized as Finland’s national epic, the Kalevala encapsulates ancient Finnish folk traditions. The course details the historical development of the Kalevala poetry tradition, its development and structure as a literary work, its use as an anthropological text, and its use as a political and cultural icon of Finnish identity.

Finlandia Fridays explore exclusive Ponsse internship for FinnU students

This week on Finlandia Fridays, marketing and management professor Kevin Manninen stopped by to talk about Finlandia’s International School of Business (ISB) and an upcoming internship opportunity for Finlandia students.

Following an announcement earlier this week, the Ponsse Einari Vidgrén Foundation Internship application period is now open. The internship, exclusive to Finlandia students, features two to three weeks each spent at Ponsse North America in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and Ponsse Plc headquarters in Vieremä, Finland, in May and June 2023.
