Claudia Youakim and Hailee Johnson outline SCAS Capstone Presentations

This week on Finlandia Fridays, professor Dr. Claudia Youakim and senior sociology major Hailee Johnson join the program to touch on a very compelling capstone project through the Suomi College of Arts & Sciences (SCAS). SCAS Capstones are projects completed and presented upon by students here at Finlandia University. Until now these have been closed to the public, but Finlandia is opening its doors and welcoming anyone to come for the presentations.

FinnU Communications department looking for summer and year-long interns

The Finlandia University Communications Department is looking for two interns for the upcoming semesters.

The first is a summer internship focused on a new “It’s On Us” campaign the university’s student life department is hosting. That internship will include a slew of video work, as well as graphic design experience. Check out the full job description.

Deadline moved for application for competitive art and design scholarship

$20,000 art scholarship has application deadline of May 1

The deadline to apply for the Dave and Elsa Brule Scholarship is moved from April 21 to Monday, May 1. To be eligible to win the scholarship, a student must completely fill out the application as well as attend the Portfolio Review Day on Saturday, May 6, 2017. That event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The end of the Spring 2017 Semester at Finlandia University is quickly approaching, and with that comes expanded hours for the Sulo and Aileen Maki Library. Below are the updated hours, beginning with Sunday.

Jarmond and Enstad recognized as Outstanding Seniors in ISB

Students from the Finlandia University International School of Business were recognized during a luncheon on Thursday, April 13, 2017. The intimate luncheon was hosted at the Jutila Center. Students, faculty, and staff from the school gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the seniors, including recognizing Walker Enstad and Schwartzen Jarmond as co-Outstanding Seniors. Textbook Justice Library looking for textbook donations

Book donation boxes are out on campus now to collect books for the Textbook Justice Library.

This project aims to create a collection of textbooks that are used in Finlandia University classes so that students who are in acute financial need and are unable to purchase textbooks will be able to borrow the book and use it all semester long. Christopher Dennis talks criminal justice and his internship with government

This week Finlandia Fridays sits down with criminal justice student and Houghton native Christopher Dennis. After his tenure with the Marines, Dennis was looking for a way to make an impact on the community and remain a leader. His decision was to attend Finlandia University and become heavily involved with campus clubs and other events such as local tutoring. Dennis has recently accepted a unique internship working with the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.

Design Finlandia’s graduation Snapchat filter

Artistic and creative? Or just up for a new and exciting challenge? Then you have come to the right place!

Finlandia University is challenging its students to design the Snapchat filter that will be used during this year’s graduation ceremony (last year’s geofilter is visible here to the right). All submissions must be in by April 24, and must correspond with geofilter regulations outlined by Snapchat. All rules and regulations can be found here at Snapchat Submission Guidelines.
