Marketing major Kyle Niemi and his internship with Mesensei mobile mentoring

Senior marketing major Kyle Niemi stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss his internship with Finnish mobile mentoring company Mesensei. Tuukka Ylälahti, the creator of Mesensei, was in an earlier episode this season, where he previewed the app and his inspiration behind it.

March Nordic Film Series screening to feature biographical film

A movie based on the childhood experiences of its Finnish director is the March selection for the Finnish American Heritage Center’s Nordic Film Series.

“Above Dark Waters” will show at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 at the Heritage Center’s Wiljanen Community Hall, located on the Finlandia University campus. The screenings are open to the public; donations are greatly appreciated.

Reminder: Virginia Fund Scholarship Application is due Friday

Applications for the Virginia Fund Scholarship are due Friday, March 10. This annual scholarship is open to freshman women to use during their second year at Finlandia University.

Apply Now

The scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and contribution to campus life. Applications will be reviewed by the Academic Achievement Committee. Students of all majors are invited to apply.

Folk dance to be held Wednesday night

The Finlandia University Social Folk Dance class is hosting a dance on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Finnish American Heritage Center. The dance will feature live music by The Backroom Boys, who will feature a mix of swing and traditional Finnish dance hall music. There is a suggested donation $5, and no partner is necessary. These event is open to the entire FinnU and Copper Country community.

Finlandia evening QuickBooks course starts March 13, open to community

The Finlandia University International School of Business is offering a one-credit course titled BUS206 Accounting Software for Small Business on Tuesday evenings beginning March 13 from 6:10 – 7:40 p.m. The course is open to community members for $75.

50th episode celebration with leaders of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes

This week Finlandia Fridays celebrated the airing of its 50th episode with leaders of a new group on campus, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Tyler Browner and Jean Pimentel are both active members in the group and came to share their stories of how they ended up at Finlandia and what FCA has done for them.
