Textbook buyback begins April 19

Students interested in selling back their textbooks may begin doing so at North Wind Books today. This is a great opportunity to get top dollar back for your used textbooks. In addition, selling back and buying used textbooks helps save trees and other natural resources. The complete list of buyback dates and times is listed below.

April 19 – 20: 10am – 3pm

April 23 – 26: 10am – 3pm

April 27: 10am – 12pm

CCSA Winter 2018-19 study abroad programs now open for enrollment

The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad Winter 2018-19 programs are now open for enrollment.

Programs include London Winter, London Arts & Literature, London Theater, London & Dublin: Two Capitals and the newest option New Zealand: Treasures of the South Pacific.

Participants can receive up to three credits for the programs and scholarships are available through CCSA. The London programs run from Dec. 26 – Jan. 8, while the New Zealand program goes from Dec. 26 – Jan. [...]

PHOTOS: 2018 Diversity Dinner

Finlandia students created a delicious array of food for their fellow students, staff, and faculty, and community members at the annual Diversity Dinner last night. Dishes included bolitas de mofongo, arroz con leche, jambalaya, carne frita, sushi, and karjalan piirakka with egg butter. Leijona Martial Arts Club participates in tournament in Illinois

Eleven Members of the Leijona Martial Arts club traveled to St. Charles, IL on March 23-24 for the Soo Bahk Do Region 5 championship. Club advisors Dr. Carolyn Dekker, Assistant Professor of English and Dr. Juan Marin, Associate Professor of Mathematics, club instructor Kyo Sa Nim Shawn Hammond, Senior Art & Design major Zong Deng, Junior Nursing major Charles Patch, Sophomore Philosophy major Harold Noble, as well as five younger community members, were in attendance.

Finnish & Nordic Studies program receives grant

The Finnish & Nordic Studies Program at Finlandia University is the recipient of a Michigan Council on the Arts and Cultural Affairs Minigrant, administered by the Copper Country Community Arts Center.

This grant will help to support the production of Copper Country Voices of Dissent in the Great War, an exhibit researched and designed by students in the Suomi College of Arts and Sciences and the International School of Art and Design at Finlandia University. Geri Hawley explains why Physical Therapist Assistant is a great degree option

Geri Hawley, an instructor in the Physical Therapists Assistant (PTA) program, stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to discuss the PTA degree offered at Finlandia. “We are designed to prepare students to go out into the clinical field and work with patients under a physical therapist to be able to treat patients and get them better in any pathology they have,” stated Hawley. Alumni Update: Pakkala accepts new role at Aspirus Keweenaw

Finlandia University nursing alum Clint Pakkala recently landed a job at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium. He’ll be working in the hospital’s orthopedic department. Following earning his degree at FinnU, the Hancock native earned his Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing.

Zong Deng, a graphic design major at Finlandia University, prepares for the Diploma Works Exhibition at Finlandia University Gallery. The exhibit opens Saturday, April 28.

Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD) 2018 Bachelor of Fine Arts Diploma Works Exhibition is featured from April 28 to May 31, 2018, at the Finlandia University Gallery. The Finlandia University Gallery is located in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.
