Get in the Delorean, We’re Going to the Past

This year Student Senate Vice President, Kaylor Holmstrom, was inspired to visit Finlandia’s past by way of some old photographs.

“Going through the pages and viewing locations that I recognized, inspired me to reenact some of the photos in those same locations around campus with some of our current students,” said Holmstrom.

Come watch SCAS Senior Capstone Presentations Thursday at 3

This semester’s Suomi College of Arts & Sciences (SCAS) Senior Capstone Presentations will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 in Wargelin 303. Four students will be presenting on their final capstone project as they complete their final semester at FinnU.

Spring 2018 Senior Capstone Presentors Jennifer Pesola, Communication Travis Cornwell, Communication Christian Yao, History Heather Saari, Sociology

Presentations are free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Presentations will be roughly 20 minutes each with a short break between each.

Photos: Late Night Breakfast

Finlandia staff created and served a hearty Late Night Breakfast for students on Sunday night to help them kick off finals week. Staff members made a pancake dinner complete with hash browns, eggs and sausage. The event was free and open to all students.

Deadline to apply for $20,000 competitive art scholarship at Finlandia is May 3

Finlandia University is accepting applications for the $20,000 Dave and Elsa Brule Scholarship now through May 3. This is a competitive scholarship for incoming students interested in studying art and design in Finlandia’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD). Students can apply online at finlandia.edu/artscholarship.

Kotila hosting talk on self publishing on May 5

 

The Copper Country Community Arts Center is hosting a Coffee Talk with Finlandia University alumna and artist Pamela Kotilla on Saturday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Kotilla, a comic creator and artist will share her personal experiences with crowdfunding and self-publishing. She will focus heavily how to launch a Kickstarter campaign, find a printer and prepare work for print.

James Brey joins admissions staff

Finlandia University is excited to welcome Hancock-native James Brey to the Admissions team as an Enrollment Officer. Brey has a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Finlandia.

“I’m excited to add Jim to our admissions team,” said Admissions Director, Collin Saint-Onge. “He brings a passion for the school and area that can’t be matched. He will do great in this role and I look forward to working with him and learning from him.”

Anni Arvio (second from left in the above photo), the new intern at the Finnish American Historical Archive, is excited to spend her summer in Hancock, though she’s already making plans to help her get over the part of Finnish life she’s going to miss terribly.

So, you missed the deadline. You lost track of time, end of the semester got the best of you. Don’t worry, there’s still time. While you may have missed the online deadline, students can still go see their advisors to register for next semester classes.

Wait, what’s that? Your advisor is gone for the summer?!

No big deal, there’s still an option for you. Make sure to contact the Dean of your Department or Erin Barnett, Dean of Students.

Late Night Breakfast is Sunday starting at 10

On Sunday night the longstanding tradition of Late Night Breakfast will continue, and will once again include a little help from students’ friends in TRIO Student Support Services as Tutoring will be available in Finlandia Hall prior to breakfast. This event is free and all students are encouraged to attend. Staff from all over Finlandia’s campus will be on hand to serve breakfast, while TRIO SSS staff will be available for tutoring.

Senior art students Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore discuss upcoming Diploma Works Exhibition

Levi Grannis and Hannah Scott-Moore dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the annual Diploma Works Exhibition. Both students are graduating from the International School for Art + Design (ISAD). The exhibition highlights work from the graduating class. This year 10 seniors will have work on display.
