Parade of Nations announced for Sept. 18

Hello!

Michigan Technological University and Finlandia University invite you to join us in celebrating the 32nd annual Parade of Nations, on September 18, 2021. Come celebrate the cultural diversity of the Keweenaw region!

The parade will start at 11:00 am. Due to the ongoing construction in town, the parade route will be different this year. It will start at Franklin Square in Houghton, go through downtown, and finish at Kestner Park.

49 students selected for Alumni Association Textbook Awards

The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) has selected 49 students for its second annual Alumni Association Textbook Awards. Presenting the first awards for 2021 were Haley Makela (’19), pictured left, and Laura Bianucci (’13), pictured right. Receiving the first award was Haley Bianucci, center, a current junior and criminal justice major at Finlandia. The award is given out in the form of a $250 textbook voucher, redeemable at North Wind Books. Over 140 students submitted applications this year.

In July, Finlandia University announced the FinnU Vacc to School Challenge with the goal of reaching a campus wide vaccination status of 70 percent. Student Spotlight: Austin Keranen, Biology

For FinnU biology student Austin Keranen, his first declared major didn’t feel like the right fit. He wanted to choose a degree that fell in line with his personal interests and made him feel enthused to learn. Finlandia hosting free on-campus vaccine clinic Thursday, August 26

Sponsored by Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center, Finlandia University will be hosting a free on-campus vaccine clinic in Nikander Hall Room 14A on Thursday, August 26. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., FinnU students and employees are able to receive either the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Parade of Nations Scavenger Hunt registration deadline August 23

The Parade of Nations will be held on Saturday, September 18, beginning from Quincy Green at 11 a.m. and ending near the Chamber of Commerce in Houghton. This year, the Parade of Nations community-wide event will include a parade of participants, floats and flags from around the world. Meet your Fall 2021 Orientation Leaders

Finlandia is excited to introduce its Fall 2021 Orientation Leaders. On-Campus Orientation is a series of in-person events and activities that will introduce students to the Finlandia campus and community. Each new student will be assigned to an orientation group or “flock”, named after a bird species that is present in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
