TRIO STEAM Saturdays pilot program tackles social justice for high schoolers

February 12, 2021

TRIO Pre-College programs Online Advisor Kailee Laplander stopped by Finlandia Fridays to discuss a new pilot program that 10 lucky western UP high schoolers will be a part of this spring semester. The STEAM Saturdays program focuses on connecting students from across the country who are interested in social justice and careers and STEAM in a monthly e-meeting. The program will be piloted with 20 TRIO Pre-College programs from across the country and give students the opportunity to learn how to code, build apps and talk about social justice as it relates to the STEAM field.

“We’re excited to see students from the western UP engage in these activities and have the academic and personal growth,” said Laplander.

Only 10 students will be selected for the pilot program, but Laplander is hopeful the program will be successful and grow to include all students served by TRIO Pre-College programs.
