Finlandia University is excited to welcome Tracy Henderson into her new role as assistant registrar.

“Tracy comes to Finlandia with a history of experience in higher education, along with a large working knowledge in regards to collaborating with both the registrar’s office and different academic departments,” said Registrar Jason Sullivan. “Having the opportunity to work closely with her during her first year at Finlandia and to have her happily volunteer to assist in projects as they came along only reinforced my previous thoughts on her knowledge and work ethic.”

Henderson started at Finlandia last spring as the administrative coordinator for academic and student affairs. She applied for the assistant registrar position when it became available so she could “work with the students more”.

“I felt like I had more opportunities to help the students in this role,” said Henderson.

Henderson moved to the Upper Peninsula last spring after she worked nine years at Williams Baptist College in Arkansas as the teacher education program coordinator. She also earned her bachelor’s in religious education from Williams Baptist.

“I had visited up here a lot and fell in love with the area,” said Henderson on her decision to move. “I finally just thought, ‘It’s a good time to move.'”

Henderson’s love for the area and the university has only grown in the year she’s been at FinnU.

“I love the small size and that you can really get to know the students better,” said Henderson. “I think it’s wonderful that we can recognize students by name as they walk by.  In large institutions, that’s not always possible.”

Right now, Henderson looks forward to making FinnU a more transfer friendly university for students.

“I really hope we can make it an easier process and that we truly are the most transfer friendly school around,” she said.

“The Registrar’s office and Finlandia as a whole are very lucky to have her here,” said Sullivan. “I look forward to working with her in the coming months as we look to make our office a vital part of the transfer-friendly (and student-friendly) experience here at Finlandia.”
