The UP Health System Great Bear Chase Ski Marathon is looking for volunteers to assist with its annual event. The Great Bear Chase includes three distances, with separate races and starts for classic and freestyle: 50k, 25k, and 10k. The Great Bear Chase also includes a 50km skiathlon (25km classic and 25km freestyle). On Thursday, December 3, Finlandia University will be hosting another Mobile Food Pantry in the parking lot between Old Main and the Chapel of St. Mattew. Organized through Feeding American West Michigan, mobile food pantries help fill the gap in hunger needs in a community, by supplementing the ongoing work of local pantries with much needed fresh produce, meat, and dairy. Start off the school year by making a difference in the local community! Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Calumet is in need of help with some lifting and loading on Saturday 8/22, starting at 11 a.m. While you’re up there, explore historic and awesome Calumet, with its great coffee shops, stores, and restaurants. Sign up here (limit 8 students).
Continuing with the Homecoming celebration, students and alumni are invited to help clean out the attic of the Servant Leadership House (formerly the Robinson House), which will be used as a communal space for guests and the girls who live in the house. The City of Hancock is looking for student volunteers to help build a playground at the Little League Field located in the Driving Park behind the Houghton County Arena. Shifts last three hours, and the the City is hoping for six volunteers on Friday, August 23 from 8am-4:30pm and Saturday, August 24 from 8am to completion.
