Ponsse and Finlandia University are pleased to announce an upcoming internship opportunity for a Finlandia University student. The internship will last approximately five to six weeks, including two at Ponsse North America in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and three at Ponsse Plc Headquarters in Vieremä, Finland. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first Ponsse internship offering since 2019.

Dozens of Finlandia University students and employees played part in representing nearly 60 countries in Saturday’s Parade of Nations.
The Parade returned home to Quincy Green this year after being rerouted in 2021. Overlooked by FinnU’s historic Hirvonen Hall, community members gathered as the start of the Parade approached. Celebrating cultural diversity in the Keweenaw, floats and marchers with flags and banners walked down Quincy Street, crossed the Portage Lift Bridge and continued through downtown Houghton. The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) has selected 49 students for its second annual Alumni Association Textbook Awards. Presenting the first awards for 2021 were Haley Makela (’19), pictured left, and Laura Bianucci (’13), pictured right. Receiving the first award was Haley Bianucci, center, a current junior and criminal justice major at Finlandia. The award is given out in the form of a $250 textbook voucher, redeemable at North Wind Books. Over 140 students submitted applications this year.
Kenneth Kujawa and Malone Hiebert make the walk across campus this winter. Hiebert and Kujawa are both Spring 2019 Dean’s List students.
Finlandia University is proud to announce its Spring 2019 semester Dean’s and Honors List Students. In total 114 students earned honors, including 68 who earned Dean’s List honors for having a Grade Point Average of 3.75 or above.

The most magical moment of the year took place at Finlandia University Sunday afternoon as the Class of 2019 was recognized during the annual commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. at the Paavo Nurmi Center. At the ceremony 85 students were conferred degrees, while they heard from Student Representative and Marketing Major Haley Makela, and Commencement Speaker Bishop Katherine A. Finegan.
It’s graduation season at FinnU! Student representative, Haley Makela stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about her experiences as an active member on campus. Featuring guest host Monica Freeman, the two soon-to-be-graduates discussed their excitement to graduate. “I’m very thankful to be done,” remarked Makela, “it’s been a long four years.”
“It’s a great honor to be selected as the student representative. It’s something I have strived for since my freshman year,” said Makela.
Finlandia University baccalaureate and commencement activities for the class of 2019 are scheduled for Sunday, May 5, on the university’s campus in Hancock.
Exercises for Graduation Day 2019 will begin Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with the Baccalaureate Worship Service at the Chapel of St. Matthew, and conclude with the Commencement Exercises at 1:30 p.m. at Paavo Nurmi Center.
