Student success in the classroom was celebrated Thursday night as 12 freshmen were initiated into the Finlandia University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society for first-year success.
The Finlandia University Chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society will initiate its 2019 members on Thursday, March 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew.
This event is free and open to the public. Initiates are encouraged to invite their academic advisors, family, friends and athletic coaches. Being at a close-knit, liberal arts school students get the opportunity to explore different options for their futures. These alumni saw their path to law school through Finlandia, while one Upper Peninsula lawyer has already proven that track as she followed her childhood passion.
“These two professors exemplify much of what makes Finlandia distinct,” said Dr. Fredi de Yampert, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “They care deeply about our students, are passionate about their subject matter and have a proven track record of notable academic work. Following the spring Finlandia University Board of Trustees meeting, Dr. Richard Gee was awarded Tenure Status. How does he feel about getting tenure? It’s a simple, but impactful answer, “Relaxed.” He continued, “It’s the pinnacle of academic achievement.” Gee is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Finlandia who has been with the university since 2012.

Potential partnership between institutions being discussed
On November 10, 2017, President Dr. Philip Johnson, International School of Art & Design Dean Denise Vandeville, and Dr. Richard Gee, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, toured the studios and facilities of the Beihai Art and Design Institute, China. The visit to the school concluded a multi-day tour of the country provided by Beihai officials.
