Price of Freedom Museum fall 2022 hours announced
September 30, 2022HANCOCK, Mich. — Along with seeing the brilliant reds, oranges and yellows of the fall color season, visitors and locals will be able to see some impressive displays of blue and white in the Copper Country this fall.
The Price of Freedom Museum, which is North America’s largest collection of Finnish war materials, memorabilia and artifacts, will be open on Friday afternoons from noon to 3 p.m., beginning October 7 through to mid-December.
The collection, which is housed on the sixth floor of Finlandia University’s Jutila Center, was donated to the Finnish American Heritage Center by Harry and Ritva Manner of Florida. The displays are arranged to allow for a self-guided, immersive experience; friends of the university will be serving as volunteer docents during the scheduled open hours. There is no admission charge to visit the museum, but donations are appreciated. The museum is ADA accessible.
The Price of Freedom Museum is part of the ever-growing archival collection of the Finlandia University Finnish American Heritage Center and Historical Archive. Since its founding in the 1930s, the Archive has continuously preserved and promoted items that help tell the stories of the Finnish immigrant experience in North America, and is currently the only cultural center actively collecting Finnish-American materials.
For more information about the Center, its collections, and available volunteer opportunities, call (906) 487-7549 or (906) 487-7347 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
