Paver joins FinnU as new Social Media Specialist

Deb Paver has joined Finlandia’s Marketing & Communications Department as the University’s new Social Media Specialist. While higher education is a fresh industry for her, marketing and social media have been her realm of work for the past five years. Along with previous photo, design and marketing freelance work, Paver most recently served as marketing manager for a brewery near her hometown of Grand Rapids.

She lived alongside the Flying Dutchmen at Hope College while studying for her undergrad, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Psychology in 2014. Once graduating, she felt her passion was with marketing, and utilizes a lot of the knowledge from her psychology degree to use to her advantage with social media strategy.

“I always make it a point to support local and support small whenever possible. That’s what drew me to working at Finlandia,” Paver said. “I admire the more intimate campus size and the true authenticity of the faculty and students who come here. Being an active part of the community is super important to me and I’m just stoked to be a part of such an incredible place.”

Outside of work, music and the outdoors are tied as her top passions in life.

“I’d describe myself as a true music junkie (I told you it’s not just a phase, mom). I’m always eager to hit up live shows, build my vinyl collection with new artists or revisit treasured albums I grew up with.”

Oftentimes, you can catch Deb strolling around town with a camera in one hand and her dog’s leash in another. 

“The outdoors is what originally drew me to the Keweenaw. I look forward to countless hours of trail hiking, bird watching, rock hunting, and snowshoeing throughout this beautiful corner of the world. Social media is a powerful tool and an incredible way to make connections and find purpose, however, I believe it’s good for the soul to unplug and spend time with Mother Nature herself.”
