Finnish Independence Day program to honor George H.W. Bush
December 5, 2018In honor of the late President George H.W. Bush, the Finnish Independence Day program at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center will include a special musical performance, accompanied by a color guard presentation.
Vocalist Mark Oliver, a veteran himself, will sing “The Navy Hymn,” while the Houghton-Hancock Junior ROTC program presents the colors, as part of the Independence Day celebration, which begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 6.
Along with this special tribute, the program includes both traditional and contemporary elements of Finnish-American and Finnish culture, along with a well-appointed refreshment table offered by the Kivajat Dancers, who are working to raise funds so they can travel to Finland in June 2019.
The program is free and open to the public. For further information, call (906) 487-7549.
