Finlandia University Coronavirus Response Update March 23, 2020

March 23, 2020 Covid-19 Update

Governor Whitmer issued the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order this morning, March 23, to temporarily suspend activities that are not necessary to sustain or protect lives.

With that, the Department of Homeland Security guidance for “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce” includes: “Educators supporting public and private K-12 schools, colleges, and universities for purposes of facilitating distance learning or performing other essential functions, if operating under rules for social distancing.”

The following emergency response changes take effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, March 24th and extend through April 13th.

All in-person gatherings or meetings of any number of people are prohibited.  Necessary meetings will be conducted via Zoom, telephone or other virtual means.

The following University buildings are closed to all personnel:

  • Paavo Nurmi Athletics Building
  • Finnish American Heritage Center
  • Finlandia Hall
  • Nikander
  • Mannerheim West
  • Wargelin including Library

The following buildings are closed to the public with limited access to University personnel:

  • Old Main
  • Chapel
  • Servant Leadership House
  • Jutila Center
  • Mannerheim East and Central
  • Hoover
  • North Winds Book (purchases can still be made online and will be fulfilled)

Supervisors will be contacting those impacted by these most recent response updates.
