Finlandia to host Service of Commendation Sunday, May 7

Finlandia University’s Spring 2023 Commencement Weekend will culminate on the evening of Sunday, May 7, with a Service of Commendation. The event will be held at 6:00 p.m. in Hirvonen Hall Auditorium.
All Finlandia students, staff, faculty, alumni, neighbors and friends of the University are invited to the service, with hospitality to follow.
“We will take time to hear stories of those who have been impacted by the 126 years of Finlandia, and share stories of our own – as we sing, offer blessings, and ultimately commend the University community and its gifts to their next purpose in the world,” Finlandia Campus Pastor Sarah Semmler Smith said.
Alumni, staff, faculty and friends of the University are invited to share their memories and thanksgivings for Finlandia University, formerly Suomi College. How did the story of Finlandia intersect with your own? These reflections will be kept and archived for future remembrance.
“It matters that Finlandia University existed on this hill for 126 years. It mattered that you were each a part of that story,” said Semmler Smith. “Let’s gather in community and name this together as the semester draws to a close.”
For those who cannot attend, this event will be livestreamed on Finlandia University’s YouTube Channel.

FRIDAY, MAY 5
- Commencement Rehearsal: 11:30 a.m. in Hirvonen Hall Gymnasium
SUNDAY, MAY 7
- Baccalaureate: 10:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church
- Commencement Ceremony: 1:30 p.m. in Hirvonen Hall Auditorium
- Commencement Reception: Will take place immediately following commencement, on Quincy Green
- Service of Commendation for Finlandia University: 6:00 p.m. in Hirvonen Hall Auditorium
