Alumni Needed for New Alumni Advocates Program

April 30, 2019

Finlandia University Admissions and Alumni Relations is introducing a new program that will connect alumni with prospective students. The program, titled Alumni Advocates, will pair a Suomi College or Finlandia alumnus/a with a prospective student with the same academic interests.

“Our hope is that alumni will be able to have discussions about their experiences at Finlandia,” said Director of Admissions, Collin Saint-Onge (’14). “The goal of these discussions is to encourage students to attend Finlandia and to foster a mentoring relationship that extends into the future.”

Thanks to the implementation of the Alumni Mentor Program this past semester, converting an Alumni Advocate into a mentor for the students he or she connects with will be a simple process.

“This is just another way for our alumni to give back to the university while making a meaningful impact,” said Coordinator of External Relations, Olivia Myers. “Finlandia prides itself on providing uncommon attention to its students and that starts the second a student fills out the request for information form.

“It’s one thing for an admissions officer to tell a student that their degree will be valuable after graduating. It’s a completely new perspective for students if Finlandia and Suomi alumni reach out and say, ‘Choosing a college is a major life decision but my Finlandia education helped me get to where I am today.’”

Alumni Advocates can expect to devote one-to-two hours per month reaching out to a list of students curated for them by the admissions team. Alumni interested in participating can fill out the form below or reach out to Olivia Myers directly at 906-487-7499 or olivia.myers@finlandia.edu.
