Junior Emily Nguyen Discusses Ambassador Program

February 22, 2019

Emily Nguyen dropped by Finlandia Fridays this week to share her experiences as a student ambassador.

Nguyen is a junior studying criminal justice as FinnU. Hailing from Chino Hills, California, Nguyen stumbled upon FinnU when she was contacted to join the Finlandia Lions NCAA Division III softball team. With many successes within the past three years, the Lions look to continue the success setting their sights on a bid at the national tournament berth.

Outside of studying criminal justice and playing softball, Nguyen is a student ambassador. The student ambassador program is a scholarship offered at FinnU. The ambassadors assist in the admissions department, lead campus tours, and reach out and respond to potential students. “Being an ambassador is a lot of fun. I am more involved than I had previously been,” stated Nguyen.

“It’s nice to show off how amazing our school is.”

Potential students can reach out to ambassadors by going to finlandia.edu/chat and signing up for an account on UniBuddy. Unlike other universities, FinnU chats are all answered by real people. Nguyen mentioned that answering chats makes the experience more personal, and it enables potential students to hear first-hand experiences that ambassadors have had.

Diving in to criminal justice, Nguyen explained that her family influenced her degree field. With a father who has a background in the field and watching crime shows with her grandmother, the degree path was quite obvious. Nguyen is interested in learning more about juvenile delinquency.

Looking forward to next school year, if students are interested in becoming student ambassadors or resident assistants, check online for information or reach out to Dean of Students and Enrollment Erin Barnett or Director of Residence Life Leann Fogle.
