May 15, 2018

Finlandia University is pleased to announce that Alyson DeLandsheer has been promoted to the role of Human Resources Manager. DeLandsheer joined the Finlandia family in 2016 and previously worked as the Coordinator of University Relations.

“I’m so excited about this new position,” she said. “I enjoy solving problems and making better processes, and I get to do this with my new position.”

Anyone who’s talked to DeLandsheer knows she’s an avid fan of the television show, The Office. She says her HR management style is more similar to Holly Flax’s instead of Toby Flenderson’s.

DeLandsheer earned her Associate of Arts-Graphic Design from Gogebic Community College and her Bachelors in Psychology from Northern Michigan University. After receiving her degrees, she moved to Vail, Colo. with her husband and worked as a Medical Records Clerk at the Vail Valley Surgery Center. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Human Resource Management from Golden Gate University and plans to graduate in August 2019.

“I am learning so much while working and going to school,” she said. “One of the main goals I hope to accomplish while in this position is to create consistent policies and procedures that are aligned with Finlandia’s vision and mission.”

With her experience and continuing education, DeLandsheer hopes to make FinnU a preferred employer.

“I want to create an environment where our employees feel appreciated and valued, beyond receiving a paycheck,” said DeLandsheer. “I feel that providing employees with the resources they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively, and encouraging them to grow through opportunities, will push Finlandia toward its best self.”

One of the ways DeLandsheer is working to build up employee morale is by serving as head of the Party Planning Committee. With the help of fellow committee members, DeLandsheer hosted a well-attended employee potluck at the end of the semester. She also hopes to host an employee outing before the beginning of the fall semester.

For DeLandsheer, Finlandia is already a great place to work.

“I love working here,” she said. “Even before I walked in the door, everyone was so welcoming and made me feel like I was part of the family.”
