Finlandia announces second year of Summer Bridge Program

The Summer Bridge Program at Finlandia University will kick off on June 26 for its second year – allowing students to get ahead and better prepare themselves for college.

“Our Summer Bridge Program offers a unique opportunity for our incoming students to ease into the demands of college coursework with highly coordinated support and opportunities to explore the local area during our beautiful summer,” Director of Academic Success and Student Life Erin Barnett said.

Save the date: Blood drive on campus on April 10

The Finlandia University Student Nurses Association is hosting a blood drive on Monday, April 10 from 12 to 4 p.m. in Finlandia Hall. The blood drive is being held in association with the U.P. Regional Blood Center. Additional information will be made available as the event nears.

Phyllis Fredendall presents her art at Rhinelander exhibition

 Phyllis Fredendall, Professor of Fiber and Fashion Design at Finlandia University’s International School of Art and Design, is exhibiting a collection of her fabric art works in Rhinelander. The ArtStart group will commence their 2017 exhibition season on Thursday, March 16. The exhibits will feature not only Fredendall’s work, but also the paintings of Sofia Arnold.

Fredendall’s exhibit, entitled Mapping Memory, features her hand-felted works comprised of wool and silk, and expresses her personal exploration of history and family.

Finlandia University students escaped the blowing snow of the Upper Peninsula this past week on spring break and invited you to tag along. Through efforts of the Marketing and Communications department at Finlandia, nine students were selected to take over the university’s Snapchat account to show viewers what unique things they were up to during break.

The Finlandia University Wellness Committee is proud to present the inaugural Mont Ripley Discount Day for students and employees of the university. This includes a $25 Day Pass (normally $35) and $15 Rental (normally $32-$38). Lessons will be made available courtesy of Cindy Cowell in TRiO.

Mid-summer festival of Juhannus set for June 23-25

A member of the Finnish Foreign Ministry staff in Washington, D.C. has fondly remembered her visit to Michigan’s Copper Country during FinnFest USA 2013 since the moment she departed from the U.P. nearly four years ago. So, when she had her choice of officials visits on which she could accompany Ambassador Kirsti Kauppi, she wasted no time in making her preference known.
