Broomball with Student Senate President Nick Tobey

January 31, 2020

Students at FinnU love second semester because that means broomball is back! On this episode of Finlandia Fridays, host Olivia Myers is joined by Student Senate President Nick Tobey to discuss broomball, what it is and how students can participate.

This is the second year that Student Senate has had broomball as an extracurricular activity for students.

“Broomball is essentially hockey, except you are on shoes or boots and you have a broom that is taped up with a slight curve and you are playing with a ball and hitting it in the net,” said Tobey. “They way we play it is a little more relaxed. We don’t really have any official rules but there is not hitting obviously. We play teams of three or more and we hope to have four players and a goalie.”

The broomball rink is located in the courtyard between Wargelin and Nikander Hall and is played every Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m.  All students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in the drop-in style game.  Equipment is provided for participants and games are played every ten minutes.
