Finnish American Heritage Center staff still providing services despite closed building

Although the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) building has been closed to the public since mid-March, the staff are still diligently providing services to the community. Alumni Update: Ploe (’12) Accepts Role as Nurse Practitioner at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital

Finlandia University nursing alumna, Tina Ploe (’12), recently landed a job at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics. She’ll be working alongside Aspirus orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and nurses. Following earning her degree at FinnU, the Hancock native earned her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Covid-19 Case Diagnosed at Finlandia

A member of the Finlandia University campus community (defined as faculty, staff, and students) has tested positive for COVID-19.  This case is included in the most recent numbers released by the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department is actively conducting contact tracing. Anyone who had close contact with the infected person will be notified and advised on the appropriate COVID-19 response protocol.

FinnU to Resume On-Campus Visits

Starting on Monday, June 29, 2020, Finlandia University will resume on-campus visits to prospective students and their families on a limited basis. Virtual visits will continue to be an option, and may be encouraged depending on visitor status (health, location of residence, method of travel, etc.). Finlandia asks visitors that have been in contact with anyone that has tested positive for COVID-19, have traveled internationally two weeks prior to their campus visit, or are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms visit virtually [...]

Ryan Street Community Garden Receives Expansion Grant

The Ryan Street Community Garden (RSCG) received a grant from the Portage Health Foundation for $5,000. The garden, found on Finlandia’s campus, will use the funds to add an additional seven plots for community members to rent, a new path along perennial beds, a bench, and picnic table. Finlandia University granted additional land for the expansion located in the lot adjacent to the Ryan House. New College of Health Sciences building renovations to be completed for Fall 2020

The former Hancock High School (featured pre-renovation) will be the new location for FinnU’s College of Health Sciences beginning in Fall 2020.

FinnU Moves to Phase 2 of the Return to Work Safely Plan

Finlandia University entered Phase 2 of it’s Back to Work Safely Plan for Employees on Monday, June 15. Finlandia employees who cannot work from home can return to work in a limited capacity after completing a mandatory Covid-19 and MIOSHA training in addition to a daily Covid-19 health screening online. The trainings can be accessed in the employee’s ADP portal. The health screening will be emailed to all employees daily.
