In 2016 a new tradition was born at Finlandia University. A tradition based in service and community in tribute to a man who had a dream – Martin Luther King, Jr. Based on the Christian principles he was brought up with MLK changed the trajectory of civil rights in the United States. To honor his memory, Finlandia students, staff, alumni and friends of the university gather on MLK Day in celebration and service to our community.

MLK Day of Service volunteer site signups now open
Students participating in Finlandia University’s second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service are invited to sign up for their service site now.
“As of right now we have 19 service sites needing over 130 students available for students to volunteer at,” said René Johnson, a member of the Equity and Diversity Committee at FinnU. “This should make for a great day here at Finlandia University.”

The movie Selma to be featured during MLK Day
The second annual MLK Day of Service at Finlandia University will feature a film presentation of Selma. The event is at 7 p.m. in Wargelin 303 on MLK Day, which is Monday, January 16.
The event is free and open to the entire campus community. Complimentary popcorn will be served. Additional snacks will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go to Finlandia’s Equity and Diversity Committee to fund future campus events.More about the film SELMA

Service Sites needed for MLK Day
Finlandia University’s second annual MLK Day of Service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2016 during the nationally recognized holiday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The day of service will include a keynote speaker, campus brunch, a worship service, a film presentation.
