Scholarship opportunities from Finlandia that would require an application and that would be in addition to the funding a full-time student would receive for their cumulative Finlandia GPA (or incoming GPA for new students) will be posted here as they become available.
Qualifying students will receive one of the following scholarships.
Board of Trustee Scholarship – $7,500
ACT score of 25 or SAT score of 1200 AND high school cumulative GPA of 3.5. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 3.25 at Finlandia University.
President Scholarship – $5,500
ACT score of 22 or SAT score of 1100 AND high school cumulative GPA of 3.25. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 3.00 at Finlandia University.
Dean Scholarship – $3,500
High school cumulative GPA of 3.0. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 2.75 at Finlandia University.
Faculty Scholarship – $3,500
Earned at least 18 college credits AND college cumulative GPA of 3.0. Renewable by maintaining a GPA of 2.75 at Finlandia University.

U.P. Commitment Grant – $4,000
NEW for Fall 2017: All new incoming students who graduated from a U.P. high school with at least a 2.5 grade point average are eligible for this.
Service Scholarship – $2,000
NEW for Fall 2017: Core to Finlandia’s mission is the idea of service. This is open to new, incoming non-Upper Peninsula residents with at least a 2.5 grade point average.
Ambassador Scholarship – $1,500
Based on academic record, on-campus housing, limited to one student per state.
Family Scholarship – $1,000 per student
At least two family members enrolled full-time from one family.
Church Matching Scholarship – up to $1,000
Matches up to $1,000 pledged by a church.
Legacy Scholarship – $500
Available to students whose parent, grandparent or sibling graduated from Finlandia University.

U.P. Commitment Grant Details
We’re proud to call the Upper Peninsula of Michigan home, and have a passion for welcoming our fellow Yoopers to campus, which is why we’re introducing the $4,000 U.P. Commitment Grant. To be eligible, students need to have earned at least a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA, have graduated from a U.P. high school and be a new incoming student for the fall 2017 semester. Students will be able to retain this for all four years by maintaining a 2.5 GPA, full-time status and good social standing.
To earn this grant, students simply need to talk with their Finlandia University admissions officer. The grant will be paid out $2,000 per semester for up to eight semesters. Students earning the Hancock Award are not eligible to receive this grant. This grant is only available to new incoming students during the fall 2017 semester. Service Scholarship Details
Finlandia University is a learning community dedicated to academic excellence, spiritual growth and service. To showcase this, Finlandia University is offering incoming students in the fall of 2017 the opportunity to earn a $2,000 scholarship for performing community service. To be eligible, students need to have earned at least a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA, and have a letter of recommendation from the organization or group where the service was performed. The scholarship will be renewable each semester for four years by maintaining a 2.5 GPA, maintaining full-time status, keeping good social standing and volunteering at least eight hours per semester.
To earn this scholarship, students need to submit a letter of recommendation proving community service to their admissions officer. The scholarship will be paid out $1,000 per semester for up to eight semesters. Students earning the U.P. Commitment Grant or Hancock Award are not eligible to receive this scholarship. This scholarship is only available to new incoming students during the fall 2017 semester. Other stipulations may apply, please contact our financial aid staff with any questions.
To compete for this scholarship you must have a completed admission application on file and be accepted to Finlandia University by April 21, 2017. This scholarship is only for new incoming students looking to start during the fall 2017 semester. This application is for entry to the scholarship competition only. The winner will be announced following Portfolio Review Day on Saturday, May 6, 2017, and must be present to win. Summer Bridge Program Peer Mentors
The Summer Bridge Program is a seven-week program that introduces incoming freshmen to Finlandia University. It is an academically based enrichment program designed to prepare students for college coursework. Peer mentors are selected to support, nurture, and guide Summer Bridge participants throughout the tenure of the seven-week program. They provide structured one-on-one attention, encouragement, advice, tutoring and academic support. Peer mentors will work to provide a welcoming environment that is conducive to students needs and supports student success. Peer Mentors provide an example to the students through actions in and outside the classroom. The Summer Bridge Peer Mentor position is a live-in position, compensated with room and board and a $125 weekly stipend. Peer Mentors will work approximately 30 hours a week.
The Portage Health Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation serving Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Through health-oriented scholarships, the Foundation is eager to support more opportunities for students from the western U.P. to study the health sciences. Additionally, the Foundation hopes that someday those students will remain in or return to the Upper Peninsula as professionals and become partners in creating a healthier community. Applications are due by April 7, 2017.
