Women’s hockey team hosting benefit for CC Humane Society

January 30, 2018

Finlandia University women’s hockey team is hosting a fundraiser, Paws for Pucks, on Saturday, February 3 for the Copper Country Humane Society. The event will coincide with the Lions game against St. Scholastica at 12:30 p.m. at the Houghton County Arena.

There will be raffle prizes and a jersey auction. All proceeds will go to the humane society.

“We wanted to do a fundraiser for the CCHS,” coach Matt Marchel said. “It’s a great local non-profit organization that is committed to helping these animals find the right home. Some of our players and I volunteer there regularly walking dogs out on the nature trails. It is a lot of fun, not only for the dogs, but the people as well who maybe aren’t in a situation to have a pet right now, so they can get outside and play with an animal for a few hours a week. It can be very therapeutic, and it’s definitely a win/win so we want to donate a good amount of money to the cause and raise awareness to help get some of these animals placed in good homes.”
